From: Nikos Mouat (nimouat@napier.uwaterloo.ca) Subject: I'm having really horrible difficulties installing linux Date: Fri, 15 Jan 1993 20:33:17 GMT
Hello...
Having heard alot of good things about linux, and really liking unix
a million times more than DOS, I decided to try and install linux...
I have a minimal set up... 386-25, 2 meg RAM, 80 meg HD, TSENG et-4000 svga
I tried to install SLS 95 a few months ago, but it seriously screwed up
(I later was told you needed minimum 4 meg RAM to install SLS). Yesterday
I got the root and boot disks from TSX-11.mit.edu and downloaded them.
I tried installing last night and again today, and I've been having really
bad problems that I just can't figure out... I've read the FAQ and couldn't
find anything like this, and have scanned through a few hundred previous posts
looking for people with similar problems, but couldn't find any, so I decided
to post.....
I'm not sure what the problem is... but I think it's to do with my
HD's partitioning table or bad sectors on the HD... I don't know...
I scribbled down what happened during install from begin to end, so here
goes.... If you have any clues at all, either email
(nimouat@napier.uwaterloo.ca) or post, I'd prefer mail 'cause of the high
traffic here, but it doesn't really matter:
