[announcement] kansas city asterisk user group

I would like to announce the start of a new asterisk user group here in Kansas City. Right now it's primarly just a mailing list, but if there is enough interest we will probably start doing meetings and the like. You can find information about the group at http://www.kcaug.net/. If you are completely unfamilier with Asterisk here's a snippet from asterisk.org: Asterisk is a complete PBX in software. It runs on Linux, BSD and MacOSX and provides all of the features you would expect from a PBX and more. Asterisk does voice over IP in many protocols, and can interoperate with almost all standards-based telephony equipment using relatively inexpensive hardware. Features Asterisk provides Voicemail services with Directory, Call Conferencing, Interactive Voice Response and Call Queuing. It has support for three-way calling, caller ID services, ADSI, SIP and H.323 (as both client and gateway). Check the Features section for a more complete list. Go ahead and sign up on the list if you are at all in running asterisk at home or where you work! Thanks, Kyle

Wow, I got a LOT of responses on this. The server is supposed to be picked up tomorrow by the first responder. Here's the specs: IBM Netfinity 5500 Dual PIII-Xeon 500Mhz Processors (Quad Capable) 2GB RAM 6 9GB U160 SCSI Drives IBM ServeRAID RAID Adapter 20/40GB DLT Tape Drive CDROM Dual power supplies Only Caveat: Server weights approximately 110lbs, and whoever wants it must come pick it up in Olathe. :) Email me with questions, pickup dates/times, etc. Rich

Speaking as the guy everyone here seems to be going to for authoritative instructions, I am entirely and completely thrilled with Andrew's work on the kc.pm.org web site, especially with the way it has been refactored to not require continuous maintenance. -- David L Nicol E-mail is legendarily opaque to nuance and it becomes less so only with continuous honest feedback.

The mailing list described at kc.pm.org still works (i believe it is subscriber-post and archived at GMANE) although the web site itself is so old the spiders have died in their webs. We met at planet sub in June and discussed meeting again in July. Does anyone know if the KC Ruby Users Group has a mailing list still up? It looks like their website is basically just the announcement of a workshop I'm guessing happened last week, and the links go to other websites. I went through all the links google returned and found an old link to the mailing list. It seems their rails application is not running properly, however.\ Thanks Josh

I know a lot of this wouldn't matter (compiling from source) as much if I had a faster desktop machine (currently use a Dual 700Mhz/1GB RAM as my desktop).

webhosting companies vs colo and bandwidth/transfer volume After looking at the high cost of bandwidth and monthly transfer volume I have got to know... How do the hosting providers provide so much monthly transfer (400gig+ / month) for accounts that are under $10/mo? Any ideas?
