Well, I am sorry to hear that you have been laboring for so long below minimum wage. If I live in a nice house and obviously have the means to help others, and there are people that come to my door for help, if I do not answer the door then I am being irresponsible. It is not a bad thing to have money and be wealthy (relative to the countries we are discussing we are very wealthy), it is another thing to be responsible with that wealth and not use it for the betterment of others. I don't … [View More]understand people who feel so threatened by people from other countries coming over here to try and make a better life for their families back in their countries. Personally, I admire them for having the courage to do what is necessary in life to try and give their kids a better life. If they make the money here to send their kids to a better school, then maybe their kids will not be coming here to work but will be working in their own country. Probably doing the jobs that we will not be able to do in the future because of the lowering of the educational systems here in the US. If a person is not in a country legally, then they should have a different set of expectations about how the society they've invaded will react to them. An illegal alien from any country cannot expect to receive the same benefits as a legal immigrant or a natural citizen. Por exemplo, I cannot go to Mexico for anything longer than a brief visit, although a visa may not be required. And the US requires some proof of citizenship upon reentry. I can drive to Canada and visit briefly, but cannot work there without a work visa. If I want medical care while I'm there, I believe it is emergency treatment only and I'd have to return to the states to get my insurance to cover procedures. Follow the laws and its not such a bog deal. Someday, we may be able to come and go between all countries and live and work where we please, crossing borders pell-mell, but for now there are many reasons for the laws in place in each country governing the comings and goings of people. I find the signal to noise ratio with the topics my primary reason for ignoring most of what comes across the list. I originally came out to the meetings and joined the list for intelligent discussion of tech related topics at any level. The mailing list however rarely presents that sort of thing anymore. Now that I am working a late shift, I can't make it to the meetings and even though the topics vary there, generally some tech related stuff is brought up. While the list isn't moderated,… [View More] there is also a disregard it seems for promoting tech topics over bickering about economics, social issues, religion, politics and US law. The closest I have seen on the list to a tech topics lately was revolving ink cartridge refills for printers. Where is Linux? If half the enthusiasm thats being asserted for these topics was put towards Linux, great things might just happen. I certainly hope at some point that something more useful than who feels what about religion and politics actually comes from this list. What we have instead is folks that are set in their ways for one side or the other locked in perpetual debate that won't change the minds or opinions of the others. Sometimes people just don't want to bother going somewhere else, and sometimes those on the free E-mail providers have used up all their E-mail filters already and don't have one free to use for yet another mailing list. Plus there's the added disincentive of the new BS list containing entirely inflammatory messages: no one wants to subscribe to a daily dose of inflammatory messages. Dodging the cow patties in the existing mailing list is somewhat preferable. I'm trying to organize a rehearsal schedule for a local play (Alcott Arts Center, www.alcottartscenter.org; "Taming of the Shrew" (a play about love, anger management, and identity theft), August 22nd and 23rd) in which many of the actors have time limitations on when they are available for rehearsal. HP Rant 2

Refilled my black cartridge, but the stupid printer insisted it was still at 0%. Turns out to trick it I had to put 2 old/empty ones in first. Easy enough, but now that it recognizes the cartridge as full it always wants to align it. Nothing else. It gives some stupid media-jam-error when I try to print (there are no physical jams). At least before I tried refilling I could just print in red, but now I have nothing. I haven't tried the scan/fax functionality yet, but I'm betting they won'… [View More]
