recycling a ATX mobo into a server...

Thinking of recycling a socketA ATX mobo into a 1U server. Any thoughts on this? Is it possible? Will it end up costing more than just buying a 1U server? What hardware would it take and cost to do this and have three HD in it. === Drives 1. boot and the OS 2,3 Linux Software mirrored - hot swap thanks

Depends if you already have the drives and other hardware. A 1U or 2U case can cost from $250-500. In a 1U, you may need to get low-profile RAM or CPU heatsink/fan to gain enough space to fit everything in the case. Those are really the only specialty parts in a 1U. You may want to add more case fans, depending on what comes with your case and the open fan slots available. As you add more drives, you need more air flow. That said, hear this. DVD Shrink http://www.dvdshrink.org/what.html for Linux would be great. It is freeware, http://www.dvdshrink.org/license.html, so you might get a look at the code if you asked nice. If all else fails you could see what the program does and replicate. Basically it scans/rips the files on a DVD, unlocks the menus, allows you to compress and burn or reauthor a DVD. So is there a good tutorial somewhere on how to combine all the pieces you two have mentioned in order to come up with a working copy of a dvd movie? I have no problems using DVDShrink, it's dead easy, but takes about 1.5 hours on my AMD XP64 3000+. I'm still thinking that http://www.exit1.org/dvdrip/ DVD::Rip is the answer I was looking for if anything. By CardBus slot, do you mean PC Card slot in a laptop? Anyone know of a Internet Service Providers that can give you speeds of T1 or greater and flexible enough to go anywhere with as little lead time as possible? Wanting T1+ speed, at a mobile site somewhere in Kansas or Missouri, with a 24-48 hour install? Wireless, Satellite, etc... Also has to be IPSEC VPN friendly (No Direcway).
